Holidays are coming and all of us are in that holiday mood so you want something nice, sweet and tasty for you and your family and something which is going to make these holiday day special.
Christmas Sugar Cookies is truly one of my fondest memories of my childhood Christmas traditional. I made these cookies with my mother each year. I am love carrying on the tradition with my kids too. These are so delicious that melt in your mouth so I am making them in huge amounts.
How to Make Sugar Cookies?
First, you will combine your flour and baking powder together in a small bowl and set the dry mixture aside.
Using a stand-up or handheld mixer, beat your butter, sugar and vanilla extract together until smooth and creamy.
Slowly beat flour into the butter mixer until it is fully incorporated.
Divide the dough into two equal parts and roll out each piece to ¼-inch thickness.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out your favorite shapes or freeze your dough for later use.
Bake the cookies and allow them to cool.
Decorate the cookies if desired
How to Make Frosting?
In a medium bowl, combine sugar, milk, corn syrup and vanilla extract and stir until combined
If frosting is too thick add more milk about a teaspoon at a time or if you add to much milk add powdered sugar until desired texture is reached
If using food coloring, separate frosting into smaller bowls and add food coloring to your liking
Place each color in a disposable piping bag fitted with your tip of choice
Once cookies are completely cooled, decorate cookies
How to Decorate without Frosting?
If you don’t want to frost the sugar cookies, you can still decorate them with sprinkles before baking! Simply use a pastry brush and brush the unbaked sugar cookies with a little bit of milk or cream. Then decorate with sprinkles, which will stick to the milk or cream. Bake and you’ll have cute cookies without the mess of frosting!
How to Store Sugar Cookies?
Once the frosting is hardened, store the sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. If you are stacking them, I recommend separating the layers with parchment paper or wax paper. They hold up well on a cookie tray, just be sure to wrap it well in plastic wrap!
Can you Freeze Decorated Sugar Cookies?
Yes! They last up to two months in the freezer as long as they are stored in an airtight container or wrapped very well.
Can you Freeze Sugar Cookie Dough?
Yes! To freeze your sugar cookie dough, roll it into a ball or a log. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in an airtight container or freezer bag. The dough will keep for up to 2 months before you need to use it. When you are ready to bake, allow the dough to thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Make sure it reaches room temperature before you shape your cookies and bake them.
My favorite parts of holiday are making cake and cookies with my family.
These cookies are so nice and I hope you love this recipe as much as our family does! Merry Christmas! Enjoy!
